Cheshire West Recycling has been shortlisted in the PICCASO Awards Europe 2026 in the category, "Privacy Team of the Year", recognising teams making an outstanding contribution to privacy, information security, AI and compliance.
The nomination recognises the work of CWR's Data Oversight Group (DOG), a small team that has transformed the way privacy and information governance are embedded across all strands of the organisation.
As a provider of essential public services, CWR manages a wide range of employee, customer and operational information. Over the past 18 months, the Data Oversight Group has developed a practical and proportionate approach to privacy and information governance, ensuring data protection is considered from the outset of projects, policy development, organisational change and the introduction of new technologies.
The team's work has included introducing tailored training for office-based and frontline employees, strengthening governance processes, developing policies covering artificial intelligence and information security, and helping to embed a culture where privacy is viewed as part of good decision-making rather than simply a compliance requirement.
The nomination highlights the team's work to balance robust information governance with the operational realities of delivering frontline services. Over the past 18 months, the group has strengthened governance processes, increased awareness across the organisation and supported the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including AI.

The winners will be announced at the PICCASO Awards Europe 2026 ceremony in London on 2nd December 2026.
